Phil Wallace - Steering Group Member

Phil is currently Technical Director for Enviros Consulting. He is a soil and plant scientist with over 25 years experience in European and tropical crop agronomy, horticulture and composting. After completing his degrees, he worked in developing countries with CDC on agricultural projects growing sugarcane, oil palm, coffee and cocoa. He returned to the UK in 1990 and joined Levington Agriculture Ltd, part of Norsk Hydro Fertilisers Ltd, in 1992 as Senior Agronomist. In this post, he not only provided technical support and gave advice on agricultural and horticultural crops but he also managed the environmental and horticultural research programmes. The areas of commercial research covered fertilizers, pesticides, organic manures and composts applied to land. He is a FACTS member (Fertiliser Advisers Certification and Training Scheme), a member of the Institute of Professional Soil Scientists (IPSS) and a Chartered Scientist. He is a Director of the Composting Association and ReMaDe Network UK Ltd, the company arm of the ReMaDe Network.

In 2001, Phil joined Enviros to advise on composting and to develop markets for compost. He managed a series of environmental trials, including a £0.5 million project on compost use in agriculture, and he has written Information Packs and Fact Sheets on the best practice for use of composts in agriculture, horticulture and landscaping for the Waste and Resources Action Programme (WRAP). These have been updated for agriculture by Phil who is also managing the Defra project from 2001 to 2011 to monitor peat and peat alternatives usage in the UK. He has developed training materials for WRAP and also supports the Remade recyclables market development programmes around the UK.

Phil both manages and directs many projects, often of national or regional significance to the waste management industry.
